HOW IT WORKS

You know the problem with relying solely on your will-power, It is a process of the conscious mind and so requires a great deal of energy to get results. Unfortunately, it has its limits. This is because it does not use the subconscious mind. It often is in conflict with unconscious drives. You may make some limited progress, but it is like driving with the brakes on. The result often is that you fall back and get frustrated. This totally derails your efforts because you typically will summon forth more effort and get more frustrated when it again does not work. The example of broken New Year’s resolutions is well-known.

What is the solution? You need another approach. An approach that does not rely primarily or exclusively on will-power. The equipoise method is your answer. You practice developing and maintaining a calm, objective state of mind. This raises your self-awareness. The more aware you become, the more calm and objective you are. In this state you can more easily deal with life and life’s challenges and difficulties as they arise without undue effort. The equipoise exercise allows you to connect and harness your subconscious mind to your benefit rather than have it working against you.

When you are calm and still you can learn to gain insight into your state of imbalance. You do not try to fix it, you simply learn to observe it. By watching the unwanted thoughts arise, you gain control of them. It is so simple, yet so effective. It takes some practice, but it is truly magical in its results. We do not focus on results as in the will-power case. We also do not focus on trying to feel better, either. We simply and quietly access our equipoise state and allow the exercise of it to take care of things. We do not struggle with unwanted thoughts and behaviors. By simply becoming more aware of them from the equipoise state,  we watch them arise and as they arise we do not get involved in them. As a result they evaporate without effort. The only effort required is to practice the exercise which is very simple to do. Like riding a bicycle, you may take a little practice to be able to access your sense of balance and be able to ride it. Pretty soon you will be saying “look ma, no hands! Of course you must get onto the bicycle in order to ride it. That is why I am going to share the practice with you here.

  2. Kevyn,

You reestablish your innate sense of equipoise and balance using mental exercises. These are simple, yet effective practices that help you to better focus. They are observational practices. They assist you in accessing a calm, clear state of mind. Thus they prevent and reduce stress and reestablish your inner balance and self- control. I can explain some basic elements of the method that you can practice which will get you started. I have also developed a complete exercise based on these initial practices that will deepen and strengthen you. If you want to know more, I am willing to work with you. Please let me know. It is much easier than relying on your conscious will power to force results, because you learn to connect to the subconscious mind that is much more powerful. It is not hypnotic, but de-hypnotic. More meditative. It requires no external supports or techniques like mantras, affirmations, etc.

I can give you basic instructions over the web, or we can make a telephone session. You can tell me what you have in mind to work on. I can also give you verbal instructions in a short telephone session.

    2. Kevin,

The first thing to do is sit down in a chair where and when you will not be distracted.

Feet flat on the floor, your right arm hanging downby your sides.

      Close your eyes gently.

Observe what you see. A little light there. Speckels or pixels of light moving around.

The inner eyelids are like a screen and the speckels are shown up on the lighted screen.

Just look forward as if from the center of your forehead. The forehead will also light up as part of the screen.

Take a few moments to just observe quietly. The speckels are like static on a tv set. If your attention strays a bit just notice it and return to the screen. The speckels represent thoughts and they arise and come and then pass away. Just be aware of their passing.

Now your hand is hanging down at your side limply. Just let it loosely dangle. Feel the blood flowing down the arm and into it. It may begin to tingle and feel warm.

Focus on your index finger. Become very aware of it. It may tingle a little. That's fine.

Move your atention to the next finger and become aware of it. It is like the other fingers do not matter. After you become aware of it, shift gently your awareness to the next finger in the same way. You can almost see your hand dangling down there in your mind's eye as you just look ahead eyes close. Move in this awareness of each finger in turn. Do this a few times. get the sense of it and just enjoy the little exercise.

This is the first step toward equipoise. Do it several times a day for a couple of days.It will come to seem easy and natural.

Let me know what happens. You will be ready to go through the rest of the exercise with a little instruction and then you will have it down.
